What procedures do I follow to get accepted to Brother Rice?

Any eighth grade student interested in attending Brother Rice must take the High School Placement Test. The exam is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at 8:00 am. Students must bring $25 and a #2 pencil. There are also three our testing dates:
November 15, 2008          December 6, 2008
February 7, 2009              April 4, 2009

A student must complete and send in the Brother Rice application. Report cards and teacher evaluations will also be requested, as well as a scheduled interview appointment.



Can I schedule a visit?
Brother Rice encourages any interested eighth grade student to visit and attend a schedule of classes during the school year. Please contact the admissions office at 248-647-2526 ext. 123. 

Do you award academic scholarships?
Yes!

Brother Norbert Hueller Scholarships
Any student applying to Brother Rice who scores a 95-99% on the high school placement test and maintains an "A" average in the classroom may qualify for this scholarship. A student receives $2,000 freshman year and $1,000 each additional year, provided he maintains a 3.5 GPA or better.


Brother Eugene Kelly Award
Any student applying to Brother Rice who scores an 85% or better on the high school placement test and demonstrates academic and character excellence may qualify for a $500-$2,000 merit award for his freshman year.

Brother Edmund Rice Leadership Award
Any student applying to Brother Rice who exhibits academic and character excellence, and attends our annual Catholic Leadership Conference or Leadership Training Classes may qualify for a $500-$1,000 award for his freshman year. Students must apply for this award.
 

What do I have to wear to school?
Students must wear dress pants with a belt, dress shoes, tie and a solid-colored button down dress shirt. Before October 1 and after April 30, students may wear the required dress shirt without the tie, or they may wear a golf or polo shirt. 

Will I have to do a lot of homework?
Yes, Brother Rice is concerned with preparing you for college. In college, you need to be organized and prepared to budget your time. A typical school night will require one to three hours of homework a night. 

How long is the school day?
First period begins at 7:55 am and the final bell rings at 2:36 pm. Entry into the school building is possible as early as 6:30 am. The library opens at 7:30 am and closes at 4:00 pm. Students have a short day every Wednesday. First period begins at 7:55 am and the final bell rings at 1:36 pm.
