Model United Nations

The Brother Rice offers a great opportunity for students interested in making friends while sharpening research and debate skills. In MUN, the boys are placed in the role of delegate in the United Nations. In that role, they grapple with real world problems such as refugees, terrorism, and international humanitarian crises. The boys must use their knowledge of the issues and the foreign policy of the country they are representing to form resolutions that can win the support of their UN committee and combat the issue-at-hand.

As an academic team at Brother Rice, the MUN team has a long record of success. Each year, our competitive season begins with a training simulation at Marian High School. In October and November, we compete in local simulations with Marian, Mercy, and U of D. Each school hosts its own simulation where the boys will compete against their colleagues and win awards for their speaking and resolution writing skills. Then, in January we travel to Ann Arbor to compete in the Univeristy of Michigan MUN simulation followed closely by the national championship competition in Washington DC in February.
