International Students

Brother Rice is proud to offer acceptance
to international students.

We believe in a diverse student population, and introducing different
cultures to our students. Brother Rice currently has
13 international students (2010-11 school year).

The following information must be turned in to the
Admissions Office for acceptance consideration:

A)  High School Placement Test
B)  Application
C)  Copy of Report Card(s)
D)  Student Profile Form
E)  Letter of Recommendation on the student’s ability to command the English language
      (reading, writing, and ability to speak)
F) Secondary English Proficiency Test (SLEP) or TOEFL

A)  High School Placement Test
Any 8th grade applicant interested in attending Brother Rice must take the High School Placement Test. No pre-registration is required.
The tests are given at Brother Rice on the following dates:

* Saturday, November 20, 2010 (8 am to 12 pm)   $25
* Saturday, December 4, 2010 (8 am to 12 pm)   $25
* Saturday, February 5, 2011 (8 am to 12 pm)   $25
* Saturday, March 26, 2011 (8 am to 12 pm)   $25

Brother Rice will host the high school placement test (HSPT). The cost of this exam is $25. There is no pre-registration required. All students considering a Catholic high school must take this exam.
Study Booklets may be purchased from the Admissions Department for $25.

B)  Application
An application may be submitted throughout the year.

C) Report Card(s)
A copy of your 7th grade final report card and first quarter 8th grade report card is requested for placement purposes.

D) Student Profile Form
The Archdiocese evaluation form is to be filled out by your grade school teacher or counselor and is to be turned in with your report card grades. It is included as part of your Brother Rice Admissions Information booklet.

E) Letter of Recommendation
This letter should come from a current teacher (preferably the English teacher) who can speak on the student’s behalf.

F) SLEP or TOEFL
Both tests measure a student’s ability to listen and identify the English language. The SLEP test can be purchased at Brother Rice High School ($50.00 not including postage).  This allows a student to take the test anywhere in the world. Once the test has been administered, it should be sent directly to Brother Rice for the test to be scored. Brother Rice will then inform the student on his scores.

After we have received these documents, we are able to make a determination on acceptance. If we choose to accept the
student, then we will need to gather the following before a student can be issued an I-20:

  • Photo ID of student enrolling e.g. passport photo
  • Family name
  • Country of birth
  • Country of citizenship
  • Foreign address
  • Local (US) address
  • Length of time student intends to be enrolled at the school
  • Verification of tuition and fees paid in full

The first 2 initial deposits, plus the one time international fee must be paid before the I-20 is generated.

$1,000 (first deposit) + $1,000 (second deposit) +
$1,500 (one time international fee) = $3,500.00

2010-2011 Tuition & Fee Breakdown:
Tuition                                              $10,100.00
One time International Fee              $1500.00
Registration Fee                                   $100.00
Yearbook Fee                                          $50.00
Media Center Fee                                    $75.00

Total                                               $11,825.00

(this doesn’t include books, which varies depending on classes and new vs. used.)

Once we have received this information, we will forward the information to the Archdiocese of Detroit where they will generate the I-20 Visa.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact the Admissions Office at bkalczynski@brrice.edu.
